Their debut and an interesting one at that. Prog Rock was just beginning to emerge from the Acid Rock
movement, so alot of stoners loved this stuff. But listening to this straight is much better because you get to
experience everything in the songs and from a more pure level. All that was to come from Yes was based on
this record.

THE classic Yes album. The proverbial 'if you can only get one Yes album, get this Yes album' situation

Probably my favourite album of the early years. 'And You and I' is glorious, and 'Siberain Khatru' just plain
rocks. Plus, the title track is simply epic. Perfection.

Okay, Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman call it quits, and the rest of the band wants to continue on. What
do they do? Recruit Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes. Who, you ask? Why, The Buggles, of course! And
the world shudders with a resounding "Huh?!" Not that The Buggles are bad, it's just so bizarre that no one
thought it would work. Ironically, it did - this album is very good. No one can replace Jon Anderson, but Horn
does an admirable job with the songs on this record. One of my favourite Yes albums!

Commercialism vs. art: Yes-style! Oringinally intended as the second ABWH album, everyone in the Yes
camp decided to have the 80s version of Yes goes round for round with the classic lineup. Now we could
hear how closely the commerical part of Yes (the 80s) matched up with the arty part of Yes A fantastic idea
and wonderfully executed. Great record!

When Yes decided to release a new album, Rick Wakeman baled for some reason. So, they recruited
Billy Sherwood and released what they called an amalgam of their Wakeman and Trevor Rabin years so
they could satisfy fans of both of their musical styles. Guess again Batboys! This is a mess of a collection;
while some songs are pretty good on their own, tie them together with some of the other stuff and it's a poor
excuse for an album.

In lieu of a keyboardist (Rick Wakeman was unavailable and Tony Kaye was probably too busy suing for
25% of something or other), Yes decided to add a symphony orchestra. Their early works were pretty much
symphonic in scope anyway, so this was the next logical step . . . Guess again, batboy! This is a truly
difficult album to listen to, let alone like. But at least they tried . . . .
