The last Squeeze CD really wasn't up to snuff. The writing was lousy, the playing barely competent, and it
wasn't really inspired. You could almost feel Glenn Tilbrook's and Chris Difford's apathy throughout that
disc. I guess doing the same thing for over 25 years can lead you to that. Imagine my surprise then, when I
heard his album! Tilbrook's vibrance, humour and pathos came through in a big way, not heard in a long,
long time. He's actually having fun again, and it is very infectious. A great record, and a wonderful solo
debut. Here's hoping there's lots more in store!

I drove up to Detroit, Michigan to see Glenn Tilbrook. This was the closest he was coming to Cleveland,
so, I finally ventured to another city to see a concert. Very cool place, The Magic Bag. And despite having
the flu, Glenn did a great job. I was trying to launch an internet music magazine at the time called ironically
enough Up the Junction, and I tried to make arrangments to interview Glenn before the show. This was
knackered due to his illness, so I bootlegged the first half of the show. The magazine is now defunct, (though
I got a few issues out on the Internet!) but at least I have a recording of this wonderful artist in action.

The fun continues for Glenn Tilbrook. Though breaking up Squeeze was bad for the world, it obviously did
wonders for him! Still insecure, but happier. If you're looking for intelligent songwriting with great hooks that's
(sometimes) tongue-in-cheek, this is the place to be.
