At
first they called themselves UK Squeeze and released this album.
Nothing fabulous about this, excpet it did set the stage for their witty songwriting, and it did give us the classic 'Take Me I'm Yours.' |

Shortening
their name to simply Squeeze, the British quintet quickly set about
showing the world how to write witty, interesting, and fun pop songs. Great songs here, and great things to come. |

CLASSIC!
The album that broke them in the UK and that took notice in parts of the
US. Incredible songs that still hold up today. In no way do any of their songs sound dated, or could be labelled as '80s'. They are timeless. |

After
achieving international success, and after selling out Madison Square Garden
in New York, Squeeze called it a day. Still unclear as to why, but they did. Chris Difford & Glenn Tilbrook released an album of their own in 1984, but other than that the world had lost an incredible band. Or so it thought. |

The
comeback? reunion? album for the band, which was released very quietly,
actually. No great fanfare, no airplay. Nothing, really. Still, it is a good album, and they got Jools Holland back in the fold. What more could you ask for? |

What a great album! A concept album of sorts, it chronicles the turmoils of a man's relationship with his wife and how he loses it. Then again, that could be said for just about every Squeeze album, since that's Glenn Tilbrook's favourite subject matter. Must have one hell of a guilty conscience! | ||||||||

The
perennial live album. Liner notes are cool, which includes every tour date
the band has had up to the date of this release. What a wonderfully intelligent, fun band -- and here's more proof. |

A
difficult album. Took me years to get into, and I blame that solely on the
album art layout. The lyrics are included, but within the body of a script
for a play. Get it? And there are no titles in the script, so you have to
hunt for the song you want the lyrics for. May have sounded good on paper,
but in reality it sucked in reality. Shame, too, because this is a very good album. |

Points
for trying . . . Squeeze tried to recreate the success they had with
East Side Story . . by recruiting Paul Carrack again, and having him sing a soulful Squeeze tune a la 'Tempted', using the same track order (track 4). Didn't work. Some tunes are absolutely fantastic here. Some aren't. Still, if you love good music, almost everything by Squeeze is highly recommended. |

A
strangely compelling album. The vibe is depressing, almost negative, but
the songwriting is so great that you overlook that. I bought this in London in 1996, totally unaware that it had been out for a year. A hidden treasur if ever there was one. I think this is a very good record. |

Unfortunately,
Squeeze went out with a whimper on this record. Essentially a Difford
& Tilbrook outing (no other original or semi-original members are
present), the spark and wit that Squeeze built a reputation on was gone. In fact, unless you're a diehard fan, skip this record and check out Glenn Tilbrook's debut CD. Now, THAT'S what a Squeeze album should sound like! |
