For my money, this is the best U2 album ever made! Every single song rocks with an innocent confidence
that is rarely captured again by any band (save, of course, The Beatles!). If you have to own only one U2
record, make sure it's this one.

An amazing follow-up to Boy. Aside from the obvious single 'Gloria,' there is not one commercial tune on
this record! You'd think that there would be more 'Gloria'-type songs to garner airplay and increase sales.
Not U2; they were more concerned with the music than money or mass appeal.

The big breakthrough; but there is so much more to this record than the singles that were released. Some
very powerful, moving songs in a time of unrest (especially in the UK) surrounding the Falklands War, the
cold war heating up, and the threat of nuclear attack. Amazing that such a political album became such a
hit with the oblivious MTV crowd.

This is the full version of the concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. The tapes from this show
became the officially released version of Under a Blood Red Sky. I taped this off WMMS 100.7 FM in
Cleveland, Ohio, on 7.10.83. Back when the Buzzard was the end-all, be-all of radio. Ah, those were the
days!

I found this at a local record shop in the 80's that stocked alot of bootlegs. The quality is atrocious, but it's
cool due to the fact that 'The Fool' is on it (one of the band's earliest demos). There's also Bono reciting a
tone poem about Christmas Eve (hence the title); talk about shape of things to come! This very well may be
the beginnings of their mid-80's pontification. Still cool to have, though.

Here U2 began to get a little too sanctimonious for my tastes. Some great tunes, but with this record they
felt it was their duty to save the world.

An EP that Island Records quickly released to gain on the popularity of The Unforgettable Fire. The
unreleased studio tracks were very cool, but the coup de grace has to be the live version of 'Bad.' To this
day it still sends shivers down my spine.

Here is where it all fell apart. Yes, it's a landmark album. Yes, it's the 80's version of Frampton Comes
Alive!
(everybody has a copy). And yes, U2 got too big for their britches. Again, some great tunes, but give
me the U2 of the first three albums and I'll be happy.

Well, The Beatles had Magical Mystery Tour; U2 has Rattle and Hum. Every artist needs to be humbled
every now and again and this apparently was U2's turn. Even the band has said that this project was self-
involved and are embarrassed of it. To an extent anyway. Despite the grandiosity of it all, there are still
some good songs on it.

Y'know, there are very few artists who can successfully re-invent themselves. R.E.M. has done it, to an
extent. So has Madonna. And of course, The Beatles. Still, others like Def Leppard (the highly overlooked
Slang CD) try something different, are ridiculed for it, and return to their proven formula. Not U2; they
magnificently resuscitated their career with this record and proved why they are one of the world's best
bands.

Again, U2 fell on their faces with this record, or so they have said. I think it's a very good effort with some
outstanding songs. Sure it may have a rushed feeling to it (in spots), but overall I think it's a good album.

Thank God for U2! In this era of hip hop, teen pop, country pop, and divas galore, U2 came out swinging to
reclaim popular music for rock 'n' roll. Every song is great - and this proved that U2 is a truly great band.
THIS is the U2 I wanted from the first three albums!

The downside? It took four years . . . four years! . . . for a new U2 record to come out. The upside? This is
a bloody fantastic album! Rocks in the right places, introspective (but not pretentious) in the right places.
Man, we need more music like this.
