Just couldn't get into this one. Too frenetic, too schizophrenic, and any other 'enic' you can think of. For
completists only -- like me. Otherwise, don't bother.

The perfect blend of quirky and pop, done to perfection. THIS is a great album! In many ways, this can be

My favourite XTC album of all time! Every song is incredible (though I could do without the bonus tracks - just
a bunch of studio noodling and half-baked ideas for my liking), the production is great, and the song writing
is arguably their best.

A strange little bird, this one. Nothing commercial here whatsoever. It's almost as if Andy Partridge
wanted to sabotage any mainstream success the band had been gathering. If so, he succeeded admirably.
In the right mood, this record is great. In the wrong mood . . .

Andy Partridge hated this album. More to the point, he hated what Todd Rundgren did to the record while
producing it. Years later, though, Andy relented somewhat saying that it wasn't that bad. I love it! From a
production standpoint, it's magical. From song standpoint, it's fantatic. A winner all around.

A wonderful record that brought XTC back into the limelight with a couple fantastic singles ('Mayor of

too! Imagine that - the record buying public actually into something good!

History of Rock 'n' Roll
Virgin Records cleaned house with this release. Legend has it that Andy Partridge was becoming
disillusioned with Virgin and reluctantly recorded what would become Nonsuch. He balked about it so, that
Virgin decided not to wait and cash in on Oranges and Lemons' success by releasing this compilation.
Lucky for us they did! Some great unreleased (or difficult to find) stuff here!

A lacklustre album if ever there was one. A smattering of good songs, but not enough to sustain an entire
album. Too bad the bad blood between Andy Partridge and Geffen / Virgin Records was taken out on the
fans. Still, a bad XTC album is much better than a "good" album by a lesser artist anyday.

Their first record in seven years, and first without Dave Gregory (although he does appear on a couple
tracks). Surprisingly mellow and mostly acoustic. Not the return I was hoping for, but even mediocre XTC is
better than most of the schlock that's out there.
