A very inconspicuous debut from one of the leaders of rock music. Very spiritual, and therefore, very much
ignored at the time. Local note: Townshend wrote 'Sheraton Gibson' on tour with The Who while staying at
the Sheraton Hotel . . . in Cleveland, Ohio!!

Teaming up with Ronnie Lane, Townshend wanted to help the former Face by producing an album for
him. In some drunken reverie, PT decided to record with Lane. This is what they came up with. Probably
sounds wonderful if you're drunk.

An incredible album, full of vim and vigor. The man is still angry -- angry that Keith Moon was dead, angry
that people were writing The Who off as dinosaurs, angry that the punks that he admired so much were
nothing more than idol worshippers themselves (see 'Who Are You'). Townshend vents all of his anger and
frustrations here and it is a truly remarkable album that we're blessed with in return.

This album has quite literally saved my life . . . countless times. A very spiritual work, it makes the listener
confront themselves and the very nature of their being in the world around them. At least that's what I get
from it. In any event, definitely Townshend's strongest solo effort. Accused of hording his best songs for
himself and giving The Who his second rate stuff in the 80s -- well, this record confirms that rumour in
spades!

A socio-political condemnation of the London neighborhood where Townshend grew up. Meant to be an
urban renewal project after World War II that would help house those who lost their homes in the war, White
City became nothing more than a glorified slum. Or at least that's what I've been lead to believe. Anyway,
great production and great songs = a great, though overlooked, album.

Live album, recorded on the White City 'tour' and oddly enough featuring only a couple songs off that album. I
would have preferred only solo Pete material, excluding all Who tunes. Just would have been nice to hear
some classic Townshend solo songs in the live format. Still good, though. Has a great cover of the English
Beat
's 'Save It for Later,' too. The video did have some extra tunes, so I added those when I burned this to
CD.

Why, Pete, why? At least there's a Who reunion on a couple tracks. That's the ONLY thing that saves this
mess, a rock opera based on a children's book in England. A resounding 'huh?' was heard 'round the world

Now THIS is more like it! Taking elements from White City and the abandoned Who albatross, Lifehouse,
Townshend finally purges some demons by releasing this, the closest thing to Lifehouse he had achieved up
to this point.

Lifehouse Radio Play, Part 2
Townshend FINALLY realised his dream of finishing Lifehouse, that albatross around The Who's neck
(and Townshend's) for years. Interestingly enough, Pete included several demos, outtakes and live solo
renditions of Who classics. Why he used a rapper on some of these is beyond me. In trying to cash in on the
newest musical craze, he lessened the importance of these songs by trivialising them. Another interesting
note is that he incorporated elements of his 1993 album, PsychoDerelict into this final version of Lifehouse.
On 5 December 1999, BBC Radio3 broadcast the radio play of Lifehouse - and this is what encompasses
the final two discs of this exhaustive collection. Enjoy.
