In
1991, this was an amazing
thing - a current artist who embraced the Big Band, Swing, and Crooner styles of the 30s and 40s. And all of his songs were originals! no covers of classic tunes! Connick has a fantastic voice that is HIGHLY reminiscent of both Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, two of the best. Although, for some reason this and the soundtrack to When Harry Met Sally are the only albums I have of his. I wonder why that is . . . ? |

really swing, Crosby was more of a crooner. This career spanning

Have
to admit, the only reason I got this was because of Joe
Jackson's Jumpin' Jive CD. Wanted to hear the originals of some of the swing stuff he was doing. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. However, Jordan is credited as one of the influences of early rock 'n' roll. |

Frank
had lost it by 1949. He was a has been, his voice was shot and he just didn't
seem to have "it" anymore. Along came George Siravo in 1950 with a batch of songs he arranged that were already recorded - they just needed a voice. He somehow corralled Frank into the studio and the result was an EP of 8 songs that showed Frank could swing with the best of them, and this EP is considered as the time Frank's career was reborn. 46 years later, the album was remastered and released as this CD (with an additianol 10 songs). This thing smokes! It swings! It rocks! Frank was the best and here's the proof. |

Sammy
Cahn was an astute
business man and a prolific songwriter in the 50s. Frank loved his work,
and recorded several of Cahn's songs over the years, many of them becoming signatures of Frank's own work. This is a collection of those songs writen by Sammy Cahn and sung by Frank Sinatra. With these 2 Sinatra CD's, I feel I have everything of import the man ever did. I may be wrong, but these two CD's are all I'll ever need to enjoy Frank. |
